Throwback Thursday: Wicked

Throwback Thursday

One of the best books I have ever read is Wicked by Gregory Maguire. The long title for this book is Wicked: The Life and Times of The Wicked Witch of The West. This book is so amazing, and it is the first in a series that unfortunately is only good for the first two books and rapidly rolls downhill after. However, Wicked is the best book so far that I have read that has been published in my lifetime. There is even a Broadway play (which I have yet to see!) that is based off this book called Wicked that has become one of the most renown Broadway productions of our time. It has to awesome!

For those of you who do not know about this great book, let me fill you in on its awesomeness. The book is basically a chronicle of the life of the Wicked Witch from the Wizard of Oz; it covers her life from conception to death. You find out why she has a serious complex when it comes to water, why she was so pissed off at Dorothy in the first place, where those crazy monkeys come from, and why she was green. Plus, believe it or not, the Wicked Witch, whose name is Elphaba, and Glenda the Good Witch were actually old boarding school friends. By the time you finish this amazing story you will actually feel a little sorry for the poor Witch and you will probably look at her a little differently next time you watch The Wizard of Oz.

If you haven’t had a chance to read this book, or you have been putting this book off for too long, I urge you to pick up a copy and read it for yourself and experience the story the entire world is obsessed with.
