The Hanging Tree

Has anyone heard the current version of Hanging Tree? The song itself is catchy and Jennifer Lawrence has proven to the world that she is a great singer. However, am I the only one bothered by this song being a club mix? If you have read The Hunger Games series you know the significance and sadness of this song. Just read the lyrics:

Are you, are you
Coming to the tree
Where they strung up a man they say murdered three.
Strange things did happen here
No stranger would it seem
If we met up at midnight in the hanging tree.

Are you, are you
Coming to the tree
Where the dead man called out for his love to flee.
Strange things did happen here
No stranger would it seem
If we met up at midnight in the hanging tree.

Are you, are you
Coming to the tree
Where I told you to run, so we’d both be free.
Strange things did happen here
No stranger would it seem
If we met up at midnight in the hanging tree.

Are you, are you
Coming to the tree
Wear a necklace of rope, side by side with me.
Strange things did happen here
No stranger would it seem
If we met up at midnight in the hanging tree.

The lyrics of this song are in Mockingjay in a scene in which a promo of Katniss is being filmed. She sings the song and says she learned it from her deceased father and used to sing it to her sister. Her mother banned the song after catching the two sisters making rope necklaces while singing it.

A song of such a sad thing and from the context from which it came has no business being a club mix in my opinion. I am hearing this song all the time everywhere I go lately. Maybe my reaction is a little strong, but it seems inappropriate to be listening to a dance mix about someone being hanged with the person he loves. And if you haven’t heard it, here it is as it probably meant to be and as a club mix:

What do you think?
